HMT Mk3

The High Mobility Transporter (HMT) Mk3 benefits from over a decade of development by Supacat for the UK and overseas customers since the last iteration of HMT, which is termed the Jackal by the British Army. It has a number of enhancements to support operational requirements, including improved protection for the crew and an increased Gross Vehicle Mass for greater load carrying.

The HMT Mk1 and Mk2 (Jackal 2) were class-leaders in off-road mobility, however the new suspension in the HMT Mk3 will deliver even better off-road performance. Whilst being procured as a 4×4 vehicle, the HMT Mk3 can be easily transformed into a 6×6 wheel drive vehicle by installing an Extenda module, this will more than double its load carrying capacity.

The HMT Mk3 programme supports the British Army’s Land Industrial Strategy (LIS), to reduce the number of vehicles in the British Defence Force fleet, as it an easily adaptable platform that can be modified for different in theatre requirements.

The British Army’s order for 70 HMT Mk3 4×4 vehicles in 2022 has directly contributed to the economic potential growth within the South West. With just shy of 100% of the supply chain sourced in the UK and 98% percent specifically from the region, this demonstrates our commitment to support local economic propserity. Through a dedicated social value plan, the contract has already created over 100 new jobs across both Babcock and Supacat’s respective sites. Part of this programme includes an ongoing focus on skills development and enhancing the capability of the workforce, supporting the development of transferable skill sets.
