Supacat UK is proud to become the supporting partner for the Great South West’s ‘Delivering the UK’s Defence Security’ conference, held at Westminster.
The Great SW Defence Event held at Westminster, demonstrates the UK as a defence powerhouse, and we are delighted to represent the defence industry as one of the Supporting Sponsors.
With a solid foundation built over four decades in design engineering, Supacat has positioned itself as a leading force in British engineering. Located in the South West, Supacat is the design authority for the High Mobility Transporter (HMT), with a remarkable fleet of over 700 vehicles serving in the British Army, and is well-prepared to support the land defence strategy and contribute significantly to the future of military operations.
The South West plays a crucial role in advancing the UK’s defence priorities, with Supacat taking an active and significant role in this strategic effort. As the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of the HMT, Supacat operates an open production line at Plymouth’s first Freeport, located at Babcock. This collaboration with Babcock supports local industry and strengthens the UK’s defence capabilities, further solidifying Supacat’s role in the nation’s defence strategy.
Nick Ames, CEO of Supacat, stated, “We are delighted to become the Supporting Partner for the Great South West’s ‘Delivering in the UK’s Defence Security’ conference. This is an important event, which emphasises our position as a leading manufacturer of tactical platforms for the British Army. As we anticipate the publication of the Strategic Defence Review (SDR) in late Q1, we recognise, and value the essential contributions that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) make to the defence and security sector. We believe that our participation will significantly influence the UK’s defence priorities moving forward.”
Supacat is an emerging small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) with a talented team of over 160 dedicated professionals. In the past two years, we have proudly contributed over £130 million to the UK economy, with more than 90% of this investment going into the South West region. Our progress has been driven by the British Army’s order for 120 HMT platforms, which are being manufactured at both Supacat’s and Babcock’s production lines. This partnership with Babcock exemplifies our commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration within the industry, while also ensuring that our region’s interests are effectively represented in Westminster. Together, we are building a stronger future for our community and the defence sector.”
